What kind of inks are Fire Scale Colors FSC and FCM?
Our colors are developed with acrylic lacquer resin and a solvent base for high coverage, high adhesion and pigment concentration, prepared to work with an airbrush.
Our inks have fast drying time, no fading and excellent coverage which makes them very easy to work with.
Fire Scale Colors inks come in three types: solid, metallic and pearlescent colors. Solid inks do not have sparkling effects like metallic and pearly colors. Metallic paints contain aluminum flakes to create a sparkling effect. Fire Scale Colors uses the smallest metal flakes available in the industry to create the perfect paint solution for small-scale car models.

Does it need to be diluted?
DO NOT. The inks are pre-diluted for use in an airbrush, so you don't need to dilute our inks. They are diluted to a perfect consistency for airbrushing. You can purchase additional thinners for our paints on our website if you want to spray our paint thinners.

Do the paints smell?

Colors with FSC or FCM reference, yes they do, being solvent-based acrylics, they always smell.

Should I use a Fire Scale Colors Primer?
YES, absolutely! Paints are solvent-based and work best with a primer that seals the plastic and creates a surface for the paint to adhere to. Our micro filler primer is perfect for plastic, resin and metal. For professional results, always use a primer on your scaled kits.

It is always necessary to apply varnish

YES. Paints dry to a matte finish, so they require a coat of varnish and if your goal is to get a high gloss finish on your model. Varnish solutions are available on our website.

How many models can I paint?

With a 30ml unit, you can be guaranteed to paint two 1/24 scale models totally applying 3 to 4 coats of color.

How can I clean my airbrush after using paints?

You can clean your airbrush with Fire Scale Colors airbrush cleaner or acetone. Ultrasonic cleaners do a great job cleaning airbrush parts.

Are inks provided with instructions?

Yes, we always send instructions together with the colors, in case of doubts or clarifications, you can contact us by email firescalemodeler@gmail.com .

Is it possible to remove the paintings from my model?

Yes it is! Paints can be removed using brake fluid or isopropyl alcohol without damaging the model's plastic body. Simply submerge your model's body in a small container filled with brake fluid or alcohol and leave the model in it for a few days. The ink will separate from the plastic. Be sure to clean and dry the model completely before painting it again.

Do Fire Scale Colors inks have an expiration date?

DO NOT. However, the solvent in the ink may evaporate over time, but you can always add more solvent to restore the ink's viscosity to its original state. Be sure to keep the ink bottle tightly closed at all times. Replace the bottle cap immediately when not in use. Keep your ink in a cool, dry place.

What air pressure (Bar) is recommended for spraying Fire Scale Colors?

The commonly recommended air pressure (bar) for a gravity feed airbrush is anywhere between 1 bar - 2.5 bar, depending on the viscosity of the paint being sprayed. Fire Scale Colors paints are pre-diluted for optimal airbrush use, but using the correct bar setting is key to achieving a perfectly smooth and even finish. We recommend using low air pressure, between 1.5 to 2 bar when spraying Fire Scale Colors paints. The goal is to spray thin layers creating the desired color density. Never spray “wet” as this wastes paint and can create paint flakes. Remember, paint must not fix or “remove” imperfections on the plastic surface of your scale model.

What size airbrush nozzle is recommended for spraying Fire Scale Colors paints?

The nozzle, also known as the tip, and the size of the airbrush needle determine how much paint can be sprayed through it. Sizes generally range from 0.10mm to 1.5mm. We recommend a nozzle of at least 0.2mm to 0.4mm for good uniform spray coverage when spraying scale model bodies with Fire Scale Colors paints. Nozzle sizes from 0.2mm to 0.4mm are best for painting larger areas as they allow a greater volume of paint flow over a wider spray pattern. This will give you much faster and more even coverage over large areas of car bodies.
